Kourtnei Fong-Kutchins is a sophomore at The Oakridge School where she has been attending since she was five years old. She is currently taking all honors and AP classes, in addition to being extremely involved in extracurricular activities. This year, Kourtnei has played JV Volleyball and Softball, as well as Varsity Basketball and Cheerleading. She is also a member of the aCapella Choir and of the Student Council. In her spare time, Kourtnei enjoys her job as a BallKid for the Dallas Mavericks. Some of Kourtnei’s favorite hobbies are watching sports with her family (especially Aggie football), hanging out with her friends, listening to Ben Rector, and giving back to the community through whatever community service she can find. After graduating from Oakridge in 2016, Kourtnei hopes to become one of the loudest, proudest members of the fighting Texas Aggie class of 2020!

Kourtnei will be reading her paper during Session D of the 1st Block, “The Effects and Affects of Richard’s Deformity,” which will take place in the downstairs part of the Library.

Mike Carovillano of The Oakridge School will be presenting his paper, “How William Shakespeare Subtly Promoted the Power and Capabilities of Women though his Play Richard III,” at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium

Mike Carovillano, a junior at The Oakridge School, enjoys a wide variety of interests.  In addition to excelling in academics and achieving the highest GPA award in his sophomore year, he also enjoys arts and athletics.  Mike runs both cross country and track and holds several school records, including the 5k, 3200 meter, and 1600 meter races among others.  He also enjoys theater production and set design and was the stage manager for Oakridge's most recent production, Disney's Beauty & the Beast.  When Mike is not busy with school activities, he loves to travel with his family.  He has visited all 50 states, along with a large portion of Western Europe, but his favorite vacation destination remains to be Walt Disney World. Mike would also like to thank his wonderful family, his father David, his mother Amy, and his sister Susie, for all they have done to help him.

Faith Poynor of The Oakridge School will be reading her paper, "Shakespeare's Richard III: Deformed, Depraved," at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that its very own Owl, Faith Poynor, will be presenting her paper, “Shakespeare’s Richard III: Deformed, Depraved,” at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium this March 21st. Way to go Faith!!

Faith Poynor is a senior at The Oakridge School. She is Literary Arts Editor of the Oakridge magazine, Calliope, which has published several of her original written works. She has a passion for writing and literature. Faith has many other interests as well. She has studied piano for eleven years and  is currently working towards earning her black belt in mixed martial arts. Faith also has a passion for theatre and performed in the Oakridge school production The Love of Three Oranges in the role of Brighella earlier this year. She enjoys community service and has served as a volunteer at the Arlington Museum of Art, Mission Arlington, and North Texas Food Bank for many years. Faith plans to major in English and minor in Music in college.

Benjamin Fallis of The Oakridge School will be presenting his paper, "Verbal Compliance in Richard III," at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that Oakridge Owl, Benjamin Fallis, will be returning to present his paper, “Verbal Compliance in Richard III,” at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium this March 21st. Ben also presented last year at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium, and once again, we look forward to his presentation!

Benjamin Fallis is a senior at The Oakridge School, which he has attended for eight years. Currently recovering from a three-month reading of Finnegans Wake, he enjoys museums, books, and conversation with friends or strangers. Benjamin is unsure of where he is going to college, yet excited nevertheless at the prospect; and while he feels ready to leave his high school career behind, he is excited nevertheless at ending it on such a high note as this.

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that one of its own Owls, Amanda Little, will be reading her paper, “The Dependency of Dames,” at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium this March 21st. Congratulations Amanda!

Amanda Little is a junior at The Oakridge School and has been enrolled since 2001.  She is the Secretary of the Executive Board Student Council, Secretary of National Honor Society, and esteemed manager of the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team.  She won the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Award in 2013 for her role as a leader within her school.  She has worked at Camp Thurman, a local children’s camp, since she was thirteen.  When she is not at school, Amanda enjoys long naps and eating Thin Mints. Amanda is undecided in both college and career.

Maren Miller of The Oakridge School will be presenting her paper, "The Legacies of Our Discontent: Revealing the Historical Importance Behind Female Characters in William Shakespeare’s Richard III,” at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium

The Oakridge School proudly announces that Maren Miller will be reading her paper, “The Legacies of Our Discontent: Revealing the Historical Importance Behind Female Characters in William Shakespeare’s Richard III,” at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium this March 21st. Maren is one of Oakridge’s very own Owls, and she will be returning to present for a second time after reading one of her papers at last year’s 2013 Dubliners Colloquium.

Maren Miller is a senior at the Oakridge School and has attended Oakridge since her freshman year. She is the president of her school’s Current Events Club, a varsity softball player, and in her free time, volunteers as a tutor to disadvantaged children from her local school district. Maren fell in love with Richard III after reading it in her sophomore English class and is very excited to be participating in the colloquium. Her paper, “The Legacies of Our Discontent,” explores the historical counterparts behind three of the female characters in Richard III, and argues that their contributions to history, like Richard’s, are marginalized and inaccurately remembered due to Shakespeare’s play. Maren will be attending the University of Richmond in the fall of 2014 where she hopes to pursue a career in education policy.

Aashni Pabley of The Oakridge School will be presenting her paper, "Deformity and Richard III: An In Depth Examination," at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium

Aashni Pabley is a junior at the The Oakridge School in Arlington, Tx. In addition to her regular academic responsibilities, Aashni serves as the President of the Rotary Interact Club at Oakridge and is the co-captain of the Varsity Swim Team. Aashni swims year round in a Club team called Mid-Cities Arlington Swimming and she has done the same for the Varsity Team at Oakridge for the past 3 years. She also loves to read, to listen to music, and to travel and hopes to one day be involved in something that will change the world for the better. Aashni Pabley is extremely grateful to have been selected for this year’s colloquium.

Zoe Miller of The Oakridge School will be reading her paper, "Making Sense of Lady Anne," at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that one of its very own Owls, Zoe Miller, will be presenting her paper, “Making Sense of Lady Anne,” at the 2014 Richard III Colloquium this March 21st. Great job Zoe!

Zoe Miller is a sophomore at the Oakridge School and has been at Oakridge since 7th grade. She loves acting and has been involved in several Oakridge productions such as Alice in Wonderland, Macbeth, and The Bald Soprano, and she is assistant director of the Oakridge International Thespian Society. Zoe loves Shakespeare and has worked as a volunteer at the Trinity Shakespeare Festival, so she was excited to read Richard III in class this year. Zoe would like to pursue both theatre and literature as college majors. Her paper, “Making Sense of Lady Anne”, analyzes the character of Anne Neville with a specific focus on her interaction with Richard in Act 1, Scene 2 and whether or not she can be viewed as a sympathetic character.
